(Go back one entry if you don't understand this one.)
I contacted my insurance company this morning and found out that, although the other driver had full coverage, Michigan is a no-fault state, and since I no longer have collision insurance on my car (just comprehensive), the most I can get from her insurance company is $500. I then called the mechanic and just now got a call back about the damages. The rack & pinion (steering) is bad and needs to be replaced. $500 for the part alone, 2.9 mechanic hours to remove & replace, and that doesn't cover the front tire and rim that are bad. Add to that the fact that the other three tires are low enough to need replacing, and the fact that I can't just buy one new rim, due to how old & worn the other three are, and I'm looking at another $700 for new rims & tires, for a car who's private party bluebook resale value is worth less than $2000.
Essentially, what I'm getting at, is I can pay $2-300 to get the car road-worthy($7-800, less the $500 I'll get for the insurance company), and then try to find a used tire & rim, get the car back on the road so I can sell it. The main point of this whole thing is that because some fucking moron decided to make an illegal turn in front of me, I'm losing, at a minimum, $1000, and a max of $2500+. That's just great.
The more I talk/write about this, the angrier I get. So now I get to spend the day fuming over something I can't do anything about anymore; something that I have to just grin & accept whether I want to or not.
