Well, after all the near misses the past few days, it finally happened - I got in an accident (with my Infiniti) tonight. I was on my way to band practice (maybe half a mile away) on a one-way, two-lane road downtown, when a lady in a Durango turned left in front of me, from the right-hand lane. Fortunately I have good reflexes, as I was going 35-40 mph at the time. I hit the brakes and swung the car to the left, ran it up over the curb on the cross-street, and somehow managed to squeeze that big car between a tree and the house's front porch, without hitting anything. I literally missed the tree by less than a foot on the right hand side (street side) and ended up on the sidewalk, also missing their front porch by a foot or so. I must admit, I was proud of how well I handled that car, in missing those things.
The passenger got out of their car and asked if I was ok - I was fine, no problems, and I asked them the same. The other driver freely admitted fault, apologized, and told me she had full coverage, so everything should be taken care of with my car. Due to my quick reaction, I only grazed the side of their front end, but it caved in my entire front fender and most of my front passenger door. I also ended up with a blown-out tire, and some form of clear fluid leaking out from the passnger side front tire. It wasn't brake fluid, as I did pull the car out so the wrecker could tow it to the shop (I didn't feel it would be wise to put the spare on & drive it with a fluid leak). I was surprised at just how civil we all were about it though. I was actually pretty understanding, a lot moreso than I expected, considering the silliness of her mistake. They were both really sorry, and asked me a few times if I was ok.
Also fortunate was the fact that a cop came along literally by the time I got out of my car after it stopped - he just happened to be driving by, I guess. He wrote up the incident, gathered our information, and gave me a paper with the case number, his name & badge no. etc. I had to pay for the wrecfker up front, but should be completely reimbursed for the $60 or so dollars it cost. I was going to just go home, but called the guys instead & had them pick me up for practice, then give me a ride home tonight (which JRP did).
I'm not going to get into the evening's "practice" at this point. When we finally played, it went alright, but there was a big argument about two upcoming gigs, the fact that we don't have enough information to promo them, and stubborn fighting between the brothers, ultimately led to (at the end of the night) the (drummer/singer) saying he was fed up and done, he was quitting. He was also very drunk, so I told him to sleep it off & we'd talk about it later. There was much more to it, but I'm going to wait & see how people act once the anger wears off. I don't care if he quits, because it will just give me a reason to be done. I mean, I want to play, but fuck them if they think I'm putting up with their bullshit drama anymore.
Well, at least I still have my truck, and my cycle. I hope I have enough money to fix the car, and still be able to afford my kitchen now...
(and it's almost funny - I had debated taking the cycle to practice tonight. I wonder how that would have turned out!?)
