So, I had a thought this evening while working out...
Some things I do make me happy some of the time, other things, most of the time, yet others? Rarely. With some, I tend to remember the good times. With others, I tend to remember the bad. I've been wondering, which of the things I do actually improve my life, and which bring me down?
Well, I'm a 'data' kind of guy, so I'm thinking of making an 'activities' list where I can track what I do, when I do it (both date & time frame), how I felt immediately after, how I feel the next day (scale of 1-10), and how much (if anything) it cost me. Will try a dry run the last week of February, and if it goes well, I'll try to do it for all of March.
As long as I'm honest in the moment when I record it, by the end of the month, I should have an ordered list of activities in decreasing order of satisfaction. Activities on the bottom of the list will be prime for elimination (or reduction of frequency), and will have to be replaced by something new, which will then be evaluated over the next month, etc.
I've no idea if this will even work, but I think having 'hard data' will be a good way to convince myself that some things just aren't worth my time. On the other hand, it may change the way I see activities, and make me appreciate them more for what they are.
Anyway, no idea how it will go, but I think it'll be interesting to find out.
