Wasn't going to, but broke down & went out to an open mic show for a bit last night. Only had a few drinks (yes, 3), but it was so dead near the end of the night, I threw caution to the wind & finally decided to do a few songs. I had to borrow a guitar (from the guy running it, no less!) and I had to sit, because I'm not used to singing into a mic & would have been all over the place had I not. The guy putting on the show is the lead singer/writer/guitarist for one of my favorite local bands - not sure if I mentioned it, but he's the one I got permission from to cover one of his songs. Anyway, I was nervous, and not only was his guitar action a lot higher than mine (stiff strings too), but his guitar was drop-tuned a full step down, so I had to use a capo which threw me off as well, (was hard to get the chords fully 'engaged') but I did three songs; 'Cigarette' by the Smithereens, and 'Something to Say' and 'All Things in Time', both by Toad the Wet Sprocket. I had time to do more, but I drew a blank on what other songs I knew well enough to do. Even remembering it now, I'm feeling a bit nervous/uncomfortable about it - isn't that weird? Not sure if I'll do it again anytime soon, but I guess it was good to step out of my comfort zone a bit. I'm going to have to get my mic out at home so I can get used to singing that way, in case I ever want to try it again. I also need to buy an electric/acoustic, as the one I have has no elecronics in it so I can plug in.
SO I'm heading over to my sis's this weekend, for several b-day parties - 1) my niece, who's turning 2, 2) a guy I know from the club in Detroit, and from the board I mod on, and 3) a girl from the same group (club/board). The girl is the one I took for a long cycle ride at the campout this summer. I keep getting the feeling she's flirting with me (like, more than just the fun innocent kind) but I can't tell & she's not copping to it. I'm not going to do anything about it without a clear signal from her, because 1) she's turning 22 this weekend (not that that's a problem for me, really), 2) she's got a 3yr old (yeah, that is...), and 3) she'd seeing a guy who is a weapons expert & was (is) in the military (and whom I also know from the board). I've no idea if they're serious, or if maybe they're 'open', or if she's just a big flirt, but far as I'm concerned, it's off-limits without something being clearly defined as "just for fun". Not even sure why I'm writing about it, aside from the fact that she wants me to take her for a cycle ride again if I bring the bike this weekend. While it sounds fun, and flirting makes me feel better/more confident about myself, it just seems like a lead-in to disaster. Shit, I'm almost talking myself out of going completely now!! >.< Well, I have to go for my niece anyway, but maybe I won't do the club thing, I don't know...
Just got a call from the shipping company; they're going to be delivering my furnace - a/c units tomorrow around noon (actually "10a - 2p) I asked them to call me ahead of time so I can leave work to meet them (they said they'd call 30min. early), so once I've got everything at my place, I can call the contractor to install it. Man, it's going to be nice to wake up in a house that's not 50-60 every morning! I've had nothing but wood stoves and little personal electric heaters for heat for the last several years, and now I'm going to have multi-stage programmable central heating!? I'm not going to know what to do with myself!
I've got to remember to stop off on the way to the Doctor tonight & buy a freaking 'for sale' sign for my car. I can't believe I'm so lazy that it's taken me this long to do it. I want to have it in the car before I go to my sis's. If I drive it, maybe someone will see it over there & call me, and if not, I'm going to park it in front of my house overnight. Hopefully, someone will see it as they drive by & call me. I'm going to give it a week or so, then I'll call to place an ad in one of the local 'auto trader' type mags in the area. I do have one minor repair to do first though - the passenger door controls for the seat position and the window don't work. I think it's just a loose plug on the back of the door panel, so I need to pull it to check (at least I hope that's it). Selling that will really allow me to have a little cash left in the bank after buying some new furniture.
Ugh. Ok, back to work.
