Spent most of Sunday cutting/installing the last of the drywall in the "kitchen". Didn't quite have enough to do things in large sheets, so I ended up peicing it all together. On theplus side, I didn't have to go out & by any new material - on the minus side, it means I'm going to have a lot more work putting up the tape/plaster. Most of the "kitchen" is empty, but I'm going to have to clear the rest out, then find a sheet or something to hang over the doorway to the living room, so that when I sand it all down, I don't coat the rest of the house in plaster dust. Next, I have to decide what color to paint the room, so it's ready when I buy new stuff.
I've managed to stay in (mostly) the last couple nights (barring the one beer I had at the show downtown on Sunday - didn't pay to see the bands, & left after one, which was pretty good for me!), despite the strong urge to go out. I've also been eating at home a bit more. It's still not healthy; soup, sandwiches, & chips (crisps, I think some of you call them!?) but it's saving me some money. I need to get a handle on my expenditures (and my drinking!) so I can get my place in order. I've got lots of things I want/need to buy, and going out all the time is not helping me with that.
Oh! I learned a couple new songs, too - Johnny Cash tunes; his version of "Hurt", and "Delia's Gone". I'm really having a lot of fun playing these, because they're the first real songs I've learned that aren't just strummming. I mean, they're simple arpeggiated chords, but it's much more interesting to me than just striking a chord, and I'm getting better at picking individual strings without having to look at my pick hand! I can't wait to get that recording/editing software too; I must have picked up, played, and put down my guitar 15-20 times last night. If I'd had that software, I could have made some progress on my own compositions, rather than all the covers I'm doing now. Oh well, hopefully soon...
Just called the doctor's office & talked to a nurse about whether I'd really have to come in for an office visit just for a few spider bites. At the bonfire/camping trip I took at the end of July, I woke up the next mornign with several bites on my calves. I figured they were ant bites, because they didn't go right away. Well, three of them still haven't gone away. After looking at a bunch of gross online pics, I've pretty much narrowed them down to spider bites. The bummer about this is that the reaction to a spider bite isn't a histamine-type reaction, it's venom based, so it's unlikely to just go away. I really didn't want to have to go in for this... ugh. Soooo, irritating. Anyone got a home remedy for spider bites? I've read that alkaline compresses (like a baking soda paste) might counteract venom (which is acidic in nature) but I don't know.
Ok, gonna split - think I might check out open mic night downtown. Need to shower & shave first though. Maybe I'll just go to bed after a beer or two.
