Did I write about this yesterday? We had a meeting this morning at work regarding our business (or lack thereof) and the steps the company is taking to remain viable. Pretty typical stuff, really - merit pay increases on hold, 8% pay cut across the board for salaried employees (of which I'm one), and suspension of company-match 401k for the remainder of 2009. Also, one plant will be closing, nationally.
I can't say I'm surprised by it, in fact, I'm surprised it took them this long to do so. I'm not really even upset by this - disappointed, sure, because it's going to make things really tough, bill-wise, this year, but I'm not upset. Well over a year ago, I got my finances in place enough that all this is going to do is remove my saftey net - I won't be able to put anything into saving each week, unless I take it from my "bills" money. I likely can do that, but it will mean a few changes... 1) no more dining out, 2) no more going out to bars for drinks, 3) selling off all extra stuff I own, to build up my reserves, 4) reducing my "insurable" items, and 5) pursuing the band more, to see if we can get some paying gigs to supplement my income.
The one "nice" thing the company did, was to give the salaried employees an extra week of vacation this year. The reason I put "nice" in quotation marks, is because it struck me funny - we get an extra week of vacation, but they took away any extra money we could have used to take said vacation! So now, I have lots of vacation time, but no money with which to take any trips... Go me!!
Due to practice running late again last night, I didn't get a chance to go running - I think I need to just plan for Thursday night to be an off-night, workout-wise. I might have to go to M-Tu - lift, W - run, Th. - off, F-Sa - lift, Su - run. It will be one more lifting session per week, but I did it once this week already, and felt pretty good. I missed my Mon. workout, so I did it on Tue., then back to my normal schedule Wed. I felt pretty strong Wed. which is why I think it might work. I'll really have to watch my diet, though, as I'm still having trouble getting enough to eat every day, calorie-wise. I need to be around 3000cal/day, and yesterday, I only made 2300. (and that was eating a bowl of cereal, a brat, and a protein shake at almost 1am) Believe it or not, though, I actually feel better, and a bit thinner, since I started eating a bit more. Maybe my body finally has enough fuel to repair itself now, so my metabolism is increasing!? I don't know, but I'm starting to feel better & not so worn out all the time.
Based on the above paragraph, it should be obvious that I'm still not getting enough sleep - now that I have to be serious about saving money & not going out, I'm going to really try to buckle down & get to bed by 11-11:30pm. I'm really curious to see how much better, if at all, I feel when getting a full night's sleep for more than a week or two.
