Went up to check out the Volts today, was about a 60 mile (100km) trip one way. They had 2, a 2013 & a 2015 both in premium trim level. i wanted the newer one (tons more options!), but it had been sent to auction because the info screen is out (center console) & the dealer couldn't find any new parts to replace it. The newer one had lower miles as well (53k, vs 82k on the '13), but I talked them down over $1000 and agreed to take is with the screen as it is.
My coworker WJC has two Volts & he's going to help me order the parts i need to repair it. The screen is fairly inexpensive, and it looks to be an easy fix, just swap the old part for the new (the dealer has to install new parts - I can get away with used!). Anyway, as I couldn't see/test-drive it, we agreed on a price, but I have what they call '1st right of refusal' meaning if I don't like it I can walk away. It's kind of ironic, as I'd been hoping to buy an auction car anyway, but couldn't find one that hadn't been wrecked & repaired (cheaply), so this worked out well.
Anyway, I go back on Monday evening to check it out. If it's all good, I'll buy it then & they'll deliver it to me, as it's over an hour's drive away & I'd have no way to get it back here. I'll probably just park it in the garage until I can get it fixed, then have the truck detailed & put it up for sale. Once I sell it, I can put insurance & winter tires on the Volt & start driving that.
It's funny... I thought I'd be more excited about this, but it just feels like something I need to/should do. Well, at least I'm making progress on some goals, even if I'm a bit apathetic about it.
By the way, thank you for the notes - they did make me feel a bit better. :-)
