Kinda pissed off right now. Got an email from my realtor saying that the inspection at the old house turned up evidence of termites. The inspection company wants to treat for them, to the tune of $700+!
My 1st house had termites, like, really bad - I know what termite evidence looks like, and there's none of that with the for-sale house. What they likely found was evidence of carpenter ants. They were in the garage doors when I moved in. I had the doors replaced (front, back, and side entry) and then sprayed for ants. I haven't noticed a problem since.
Even if there is new/current activity, it's ants, not termites. Paying for termite treatment will do nothing to correct the issue (if there is one).
On another point, I fucking hate the company that did the estimate. It's the same company that did the inspection in my 1st house & told me all the damage was from water. After I moved in, I found out here had been ongoing termite activity in the house for well over a decade. This company was brought in by the sellers' realtor, and I'm convinced they were in her pocket. They flat-out lied to me and got away with it because I was a 1st time home buyer & didn't know any better.
Now that I think about it, one of the realtor cards left at my place was from the same company who sold me that 1st house. I wonder if it's the same one? If so, I'm willing to bet they're doing the same thing. I'm tempted to hire a different company to inspect it myself, but 1st, I'll talk with my realtor about the situation & see what he says.
This fucking sale just keeps getting financially worse. I'm not happy. Of course, not being happy is probably what I deserve, after believing that things might go well. I really should know better.
