I was reminded today of something Stepfie asked me a while back (this thought came to mind while I was browsing the dating site I'm on, a few days ago), when I mentioned considering dating one of my exes again - she said something to the effect of "so have you gone thru all the other girls in your town already?", which seems like a valid point...
Until you consider this; when it comes to dating sites, there are a lot of filters one can use to narrow down the search, and I mean dozens. The search can also be narrowed by location, and by age as well. Now, the only filters I've chosen relate to smoking habits, offspring, and type of relationship desired (my choices? non-smoker, no kids/doesn't want any, and long-term or new friends only). I set my distance at 50 miles, and my age range at 25yrs, and get this... Know how many possible matches their "special" algorithm came up with, to put in my list? On average, about 15. I didn't pick any filters about height, weight, fitness, pets, drinking, ethnicity, languages, religion, etc, just the three. And of those fifteen, not one is someone I'm remotely interested in, for various reasons. So I thought I'd set the distance to 100 miles, see what'd come up. Guess how many!? Freaking 33.
Think about that... within a 31,415 square mile area, there are only 33 women who don't smoke, don't have/want kids, and are looking for long-term. Yeah, I know not everyone uses these dating sites, but c'mon! When I change my zip code to Chicago, or Ann Arbor, etc, I can limit distance to only 5-10 miles & I can't even count all the profiles that show up...
Pretty sure it's (I'm?) hopeless.
