Crisis temporarily averted - had to use a hacksaw to cut through one of the pipes, then it took a combination of WD40, a propane torch, a 2" pipe wrench, a 2.5 foot long breaker bar, and about a half an hour, but I managed to get that pipe to break loose without damaging the threads. I happened to have just the right size end-cap for it too, and teflon tape, so once it was apart, I just had to wire-brush the threads, tape up the joint & tighten the cap onto it. Water is restored everywhere in the house again, except for the washing machine (and the outside faucet out back), so no laundry until I can get a plumber out here, or until I decide to just do it myself.
it went surprisingly smoothly, so maybe I will? Of course, 1) I don't know if I want to wait an entire week to tackle this project, and 2) if I have a plumber come out, I can have them quote relocating the pipes, and installing the softener at the same time. Would be nice to finally have that done, but I know it'll annoy me to have to pay so much money for something I could do myself (if I had the time/inclination).
Also, was kind of a mixed blessing as far as workouts go - was supposed to do strongman again this morning. Kinda bummed I didn't get to go, but it's probably better I didn't, as my back still isn't doing that well. I mean, I can get around fine, but I can tell something's pinched/misaligned. It'll probably be helpful to rest until Monday again.
Just checked the weather for Sunday for A2. By the time I get there, it should be all the way up to 14°F with 10mph winds. That will be the coldest it's ever been for my visit. I hope I can handle it long enough to stay for a bit. He would have been 17 this year... Gods, that's weird to think about.
