So, I've arranged for the engine to be dropped off at the machine shop to get rebuilt. It's quite a lot more than I was expecting, but when he broke down the parts/labor/machine work costs, it was more than reasonable, so I decided to go ahead with it. I can cover the additional cost by selling my gma's old car, once Viv decides whether she wants it or not (I was planning on doing that soon anyway).
I also arranged for the guy I bought it from to deliver it to the shop instead of my place up here. I tried to talk him into half the "delivery fee" since it was a 60% shorter trip. I suggested $625, but he seemed a bit unsure. Turns out, we worked out a bargain - I live right near one of his favorite breweries, and he asked if I could buy him a growler (jug) of their Imperial IPA. I told him it was a little out of the way, but no problem. When I agreed, he texted "if you bring me that, we'll say $600 & call it even!". It works out to be what I was hoping for, as the IPA was $22, so it feels fair & equitable all around to me.
Here's the surprising thing though... While I had no problem going into the place (it's also a great restaurant & was packed!) I realized just how much I miss beer, while I was driving home. Apparently there was a little beer on the outside of the jug, and I could smell it on my hands as I drove. Gods, did it smell good! I really wanted one the whole way home. Once I got it in the fridge & washed my hands, I seem to be ok, but man, even though I was never a big beer drinker, I really do miss the taste of our local microbrews...
