Just realized I never finished the "bartender" story. Well basically, I chose avoidance. Blamed it on my family & a bad mood the first night (as I mentioned), house work on the next, and fortunately, I was driving to the lakeshore when she tried to contact me about stopping by on her way home, to say goodbye. We did end things on a decent note though, by each saying it was good to see each other/catch up again, so I don't feel quite as bad. I really should learn to be more direct though, rather than just avoiding difficult situations.
I did manage to get a lot of the basement cleaned up, but no progress yet on the water lines. When it comes to large projects, I'm a terrible procrastinator, always have been, even when I was a kid. Oh well, it's not leaking any worse, so I'll get to it eventually.
I found a new dating website called F1tness S1ngles, I think, and decided to create an anonymous profile so I could browse a bit, see who might be out there. Seems like the type of women there are more of what I'm looking for, but unfortunately, there don't seem to be too many in my area - they're mostly 50+ miles away. Oh well. Anyway, there are some *very* fit women on there & it made me realize that I've just been skimping by. I really need to put a bit more effort into this.
I've been planning on making January a big step for me (not because of New Years' or anything, it just happened to fall in place this way), by trying a new OTC supplement along with my workouts. It's recommended to not drink while taking it, so I'm going to quit alcohol for the month of January at least, while I'm trying this out. It's supposed to help with recovery, and building/retaining muscle. I'm also going to try to get back into running, as I want to be able to run another 5k this spring. I'd really like to shoot for a 10k sometime before fall, as I've never done one (only managed two 5ks ever), and I remember that when I was running, I was quite a bit lighter (30# less than I am now), and was really starting to look good. Granted, I might not lose that much weight if I'm still lifting heavy, but it'd be nice to get rid of this "insulating layer" I'm carrying around. Any suggestions for a big guy on getting started (beyond easing into it? That one I know!), and taking into account our temps will be hovering in the teens-twenties for the foreseeable future? I don't do any running right now, although I did make a running log a while back that I've revived for this project. I also don't have much in the way of winter gear - any brands/types of shells/thermals/etc I should consider? I guess I should probably water-proof my running shoes today too, while I'm thinking of it...
Lastly, I hope I find something to do for NYE. I've been doing much better overall with the socializing aspect of my life, it really would be a bummer to end the year negatively by sitting home alone, or worse yet, going out alone that night. Being alone kind of sucks, but being alone in a room full of people sucks worse.
Ok, end on a positive... I'm looking forward to next month, and the gains I'm going to make with running & weight training! :-)
