So I've got a bit to update... (ok, more than a bit - took me two days to write this up at work!!)
JRP called off practice Thursday, so we got together Sunday afternoon. We only had about 75 minutes to play, because JP had to leave for work (had forgotten he was scheduled that day). Things went surprisingly well, even though we weren't as tight as I'd have liked. We had some minor flubs (each of us, in various songs) and had to start one song over, which I guarantee we won't do in a show, but it was fine for practice. I'm still trying to get a flyer so I can do some mods to it. For the ones I want to post around work, I want to have our band pic on it, so people will realize it's me, and not just somebody's friend's band. Not to sound like a jerk, but I'm pretty well known around town, and at work, and I think if people know it's actually me playing, they'll be more likely to come out. I'm really starting to look forward to it!
I've been going out to local shows quite a bit recently, and have had a good time of it. There are a couple of girls I've flirted with a bit, and I'm hoping something comes from it. The first girl is a friend of Meg_D - I keep seeing the two of them out together. This girl is really intriguing: she's really cute, fairly short/petite, and she's got a style I really dig. She's got a couple microdermal piercings around both of her eyes, and has this cool kind of "friendly goth" look about her; not all dark, but edgy, I guess. I saw her at a show Friday night (Del1lah DeWylde - this was actually taken at the show I saw!), I was hanging out in the back of the room near the doors, and apparently she was a bit bored, because she kept going between the venue room & the bar all night. Every time she'd pas me though, we make eye contact, and sometimes I'd get a smile out of her. Yeah, not much of a big deal, but it's more than I usually get, so I was happy!
The next night was the H3x B0mbs, P1nStr1pes, and Must4rd Plug at the Peacock.I decided to take the cycle to that show, which turned out to be fun! I unfortunately missed the H3x B0mbs playing, but the other bands were really good! I hung out with a coworker & his wife, who are really into Must4rd Plug. Got to talk with the B0mbs a bit, had a few drinks, and did a little crowd-watching. Guess who was there? Meg_D & her cute friend! I got to say hi to them again, and I got the once-over from the pierced gal (as it was a bit cold that night, I had my chaps on as well as my leather jacket, and my helmet under my arm). A few times during the show, we did the whole eye-contact thing again. At one point I got a little overheated (dressing for winter riding is *not* conducive to keeping cool in a venue!) and stepped outside, where I got into a couple conversations regarding the bike, riding in the winter, etc. (Lots of socializing for me! Unusual, but that's a good thing...) Stepped back in for a while, tracked down my buds to say goodbye, and went out to gear up & head to the next venue. To my pleasant surprise, as I'm getting ready to get on the bike, the pierced girl is walking back into the bar, and when I look up at her, she stops to look at me & says "I like your bike!" First words from her! Pretty cool...
Took off for the next bar, Lou's, where there was another band playing. Got a beer, wandered in to check them out, but didn't wan to pay $5 cover, as they were almost done for the night (besides, I'd already spent $10 cover at the other place). Went back out to the bar & grabbed a seat to do some people watching. After about 10-15 minutes, a gal came up next to me to get a beer, then sat down. I did manage to get a smile in & ask how she was (which is difficult for me, as I tend to get nervous/self-conscious). She sat there for a while, then somehow we struck up a conversation. Just basic smalltalk at first, but it picked up after a few minutes. Shortly after this, a friend I met through Bo stopped to talk (he plays guitar & keyboards for the ph1lly cr4wl3rs, who's last show I'd just attended). I introduced them, and the three of us talked for several minutes, mostly about local musicians, who they both knew, etc., until he had to take off (she'd mentioned being there with a few guys from a local band, and made a specific point to tell *him* that she wasn't dating any of them, which I thought was kind of cute!). She sat & talked with me a little while longer after he'd gone, then she said she had to meet some friends at another bar. I'm not one to impose myself (as I'm sure has become readily obvious if you've been reading for any length of time!) so I told her where I was heading, told her how much I enjoyed our conversation, and that I hoped we ran into each other again soon. We walked out together, said goodbye again, and I stopped at my bike, which was right outside the front door (I parked on the sidewalk). After she'd gone a few more steps, she turned around, and I got another "I like your bike" comment, this one about the color. (Women seem to love my bike's color - black, with a metal flake "robin's egg" blue - added bonus, I guess!?)
Anyway, I headed off to the Dog for a last drink, and there was a pretty good band playing classic rock covers. Thin crowd, but I did get to flirt a bit with a waitress, and the bartender. I must have been looking friendlier than usual as well, because I even got a few smiles from women just walking past me on their way to the bar! It seems that once I get into that mode, I'm pretty much spot on - unfortunately, my "flirt" mode doesn't happen too often. I think having Viv back in town has mellowed me out. Knowing that there's someone who digs me/thinks I'm sexy is a good ego boost, and gives me a bit more confidence than I'd normally have.
Oh, and I finally got my couch, and now have it in place! I got an ottoman with it too, and once I get the trim finished in the bedroom and can move my futon back in there, I'll finally be able to put down my area rugs and the LR will be 80-85% done! (Yes, I know I owe pics - I can find my freakin' camera cable!)
I've got a bit to write about Viv too, but I don't have the time now, and this entry is already way too long, so maybe I'll try later. If not, it's no biggie, as it's nothing earth-shattering, just some general goings-on and observations.
I can't wait for this weekend to come around - I'm hoping to run into those two girls again at some point!
