So, I made it out to Detroit this weekend to help celebrate a few friends' collective birthdays. Unfortunately, there were thunderstorms all day across the lower part of the state, so I couldn't take my cycle. Fortunately I just got the brakes fixed on my car (so I didn't have to take the old truck - ugh) and I got to drive over in (expensive) style. I say 'expensive', because this land yacht gets about 13-15mpg - it maybe ride nice, but it's a gas hog. Between the fuel costs there & back, dinner with a couple people Sat. night, and drinks at the club, a one-night road-trip cost me around $120. Damn good thing I don't do this on a regular basis, I'd be broke!
On the home front, I'd bought a vanity for the bathroom a couple weeks ago & just recently had time to try to install it. I picked one that was just under the width between the lights, and it fit pretty well between them... that is, until i tried to open the door. FAIL. Could only open it up 1/4 of the way before it hit the sconce! >.< So now I need to take that back & find a flat mirror - then I'll just find an appropriate shelf to place below it & call it good.
On a different topic, I finally started running again this morning. Up early, couple cups of coffee, mp3 player, and a short 1 mile run, which didn't feel all that short. I can't believe how far out of shape I got in just a few (ok, several) months of inactivity! ANyway, I'm going to try to keep it to 3 times per week to start (unless I feel particularly good and can do more) just so I don't get burnt out. I'm really looking forward to putting on some miles soon! Also, it's getting my mind in gear to get back into weight lifting too - a buddy of mine picked up a few larger truck tires & I'm going to pick one up from him soon, so I can start doing tire flips (like they do on 'World's Strongest Man', just with a smaller tire). I'm actually looking at installing some cool work stations like those in my back yard before fall hits.
For example:
Fingal fingers...
Hercules Hold...
Tire Flip and Farmer's Walk...
and maybe something like the Atlas Stones...
Those things look like a lot more fun than sitting in the basment "pumping iron"... If/when I get them done, I'll post pics! (and yes, I realize I haven't posted any house pics yet - I'll get to that this week, hopefully in the next day or two!)
Ok, back to work...
