Bad news? Car didn't start after work yesterday - good news? I did finally get it started & made it home. Thing is, now I definitely have to take it in, which I'm thinking of doing immediately after work today, to see if they can at least give me an estimate. Here goes some more money! >:-( That's alright, though, I guess - I need to sell it, and I can't sell it if it's broken...
Bought spark plugs for the old bike last night as well, and now that I have the manual, I think I should be able to get it running this weekend. Of course, it figures I'm going to be working Saturday, but it's OT and I can definitely use the money! That means Sunday, I'm going to try to clean the back room (so I can get someone out for window estimates), work on the bike, and finally cut the grass! I haven't cut it yet this year, and it looks like a meadow - it's higher than my knees right now! That, in itself, is going to be a full half-day project, because I will likely have to mow it twice-over to get everything, maybe thrice... God, this is gonna suck!!
Anyway, weightlifting is going well again - I haven't maxed out recently, but I've hit PR's (personal records) in both my deadlift, (235#, 3x8, which is 3 sets of 8 reps) and squats (225#, 3x6). That's more than I've ever done, weight-wise, aside from doing max lifts. I want to find my maxes, but I don't have any safety bars at home, so in order to do it, I need to go out & buy some saw horses that can handle a lot of weight. My other lifts aren't so impressive, but again, I don't feel safe pushing myself without safeties - once I get those, I should be able to get better numbers on my bench. Squats, deads, and bench are the "big 3" for testing/measuring strength. A common goal for guys is a combined total of 1000# for your 1 rep max. That's out of reach for most guys, so many start at a 6-700# goal. If I go by what the online calculator tells me, I should be able to hit a #700 total. It estimates your 1 rep max, by applying a coefficient to any weight x rep - it says I should be able to get a 292# deadlift, a 253# squat, and a 163# bench. I did actually try a 165# bench a couple weeks ago, & got it, so it's estimates might be pretty close. I know not many people really give a shit about all this, but I think it's pretty cool! ;-)
Band practice again tonight - Tuesday, I learned another new song, which (I think) brings me up to 5 new in the last 2 weeks. I think we're going to try to play through them tonight, instead of just going over the parts. Hopefully, I'll get through them alright, and be able to move on to learning a few more.
(on a side note, I was down 3-4# when I got on the scale this morning. I'm trying not to pay too much attention to my weight, but it's the lowest I'm been since I started lifting, so I was pretty happy to see that! It means that even though my weight hasn't moved much, I'm losing body fat. At least that's what I hope is happening...)
