I made some decent progress yesterday on a few things - not everything I wanted to get done, but I had a little fun as well, and that's always a good thing!
My sister was in town, so yesterday morning I went to brunch with her, my mother, and my grandmother, at a local "ma & pop" shop. After that I came home & decided to clean out the car to sell it - once I got all the junk out of it, I decided to really dress it up; not only did I wax it, but I also "detailed" the inside. (I put "detailed" in quotes because it wasn't a full detail, just a basic "clean & shine"). The last things I have to do now are vacuum it out & dress the tires/clean the rims. I'm finishing the ad I wrote to place in the windows tonight, so hopefully by tomorrow, the signs will be in it & people will start calling me!
Last night, after cleaning the car, I sat down to web surf, and decided to get the guitar out & practice a little bit. I'd previously bookmarked a "guitar chords" page for a classic rock band called "America", and after pulling up the site, I proceeded to spend maybe 3 hours working on several songs; "Ventura Highway", "Sister Golden Hair", "Sandman" and "Horse With No Name" (both of which I pretty much already knew), "You Can Do Magic", "Lonely People", "Tin Man" and "I Need You". Most of them were pretty straight-forward, but "You Can Do Magic" was a bit difficult, because it has 4/5 chords for the verses/chorus, and 4/5 for the bridge, and they change literally every 1-2 seconds. That many changes, that often, isn't something I'm used to, and I found it pretty difficult, so I worked on that song the most; probably over half my total time. I got it down pretty well after all that, but I finally had to quit because my fingers were so sore, I couldn't hold the strings down anymore, well enough to actually make the chords sound right. I'm pretty excited about how far I got last night, so I think I'm going to try to work on them again tonight, as well as on the new songs for my bass playing.
We're going to be having practice a couple nights a week now, both Tuesday and Thursday, which is fine, except it's pretty much screwed up my workout schedule. I'm thinking I might have to go to a Su/Mo/Tu/Th split & see if I can keep up with it. I went out to karaoke last night, but only had two drinks, and only stayed for an hour - left at midnight, and wasn't all that upset about it! Got to sing one song (Mother's Little Helper", by the Stones) and it didn't go as well as I'd hoped. I wasn't bad at all, but it definitely wasn't what I'd been hoping/aiming for. I think that until I run this 5k on the 26th, I'm going to stay in for the evenings; if I go out at all, it'll be for dinner, or with friends only. I also want to finally try this whole "8hrs of sleep/night" thing, and see if that helps me at all. I slept 12 hrs Saturday night, and although I felt a bit groggy in the morning, I ended up feeling pretty good! I probably shouldn't say I slept all that time though - for some reason, ever since I started sleeping in my "bedroom" again, I've been dreaming like a madman! (and no, I don't mean I'm having "crazy-man" dreams, I'm just dreaming a lot, every night.) Saturday night, I woke up no less than 4-5 times after having at least a couple different dream sequences each time. It's actually pretty fun, because once I'm dreaming, I get to choose what happens next, or which thread I want to follow/pursue. The only downside is that when I dream too much, I tend to feel not as well-rested. I've been thinking about looking into doing a sleep study, to see if I'm actually sleeping through the night or not... I highly doubt I am.
Oh, yeah - got some mildly bad news today - they discontinued the style of exhaust I have on my motorcycle, so now I have to go down & pick a new type. It doesn't bother me so much on the aesthetic side, but damnit, I really liked the sound of those old pipes, and there's absolutely no way of knowing what any of the new pipes will sound like. I'm going to have to ask them if I can change them if I hate the sound. I mean, as long as they sound ok, I'll probably keep them, but if they sound seriously weak/quiet, there's no way I'm keeping them, you know? I really hope that they'll work with me on this... If not, maybe I can take in the previous set of pipes that were on it when the insurance company "totalled" the bike out. I think they're still intact, and they're the same style that I have currently.
