My heart rate has refused to go down, and my HRV has tanked & isn't getting any better, so I'm making a few changes. Starting today, I'm reducing my caffeine intake by approx. 60% (no coffee for a few weeks, at least). I started drinking coffee in the 1st place as a psychiatrist-approved method of self-medication, when the 4-5 different depression meds I tried all failed. He said it was simple and safe, and as long as I didn't overdo it, it might help (it did!).
Anyway, since I started the TRT, my depression symptoms have all but disappeared. I get a little bummed out now & again, but nowhere near like it was before, so I'm wondering if maybe I can do without so much caffeine?
I'm currently using a half-serving of a pre-workout 5-6 days/week, which gives me around 170mg. i'd been having 20 oz of coffee at work (home-brewed) each 10oz cup having about the same amount. so a total of 510mg/day (so dropping 340-350mg out), and one re1gn energy drink each weekend morning (which has around 300mg). I used to have two cups of coffee + the re1gn on the weekends. I've been doing that for literally years, so we'll see if that helps!
I also decided to stop the cold tub/sauna/rowing for (maybe) the rest of this month? I'm wondering if it's just too much stress too close to my bed time (usually done by 7p, bed around 9p). Will give this a month or so to see if my overnight HR & HRV improve. I'm hoping that, between the smaller caffeine intake and the lighter (physical) stress load, my sleep may improve to the point where I can start adding these things back in, one at a time, until I'm back to all of them (rowing, cold tub, sauna - not the caffeine!).
The tough part is, I really feel like a slacker now, like I'm just being lazy.
