Part #1
I'm really starting to stress out. My recovery from either workouts or even yardwork is awful now & I end up being sore for days. The only time I don't hurt in some way anymore is at night after I've taken a thc gummie to help me sleep. When things are going well, I can handle being in relatively constant pain, but when shit starts piling up, it wears me down; I get moody, depressed, hopeless, and much more easily prone to annoyance/anger.
Re: the water heater install, the lady on the phone told me one of my options was for them to install a heater I bought myself, and for around $500 they would both install it and haul away the old one. The guy came over & installed it on Friday, but it took him longer than expected, as he didn't have the right fittings in his truck & had to go to Lowe's to pick them up. Arrived around 4:45, left for about 45 minutes to get parts, finished up around 8P. Also told me his truck was full from other jobs & asked if I minded that he come back & pick it & the packaging up later.I asked if he had an idea of how much the bill might be (as he didn't want to accept my payment & be responsible for holding onto my credit card info over the weekend). He told me he would remove the 45 minutes he was away, and that he expected it to be around $400-450.
I got a call from the shop today & asked what the bill was & the lady told me around $650. I was confused (based on what the installer told me) and told her about the 45 minutes he was gone. She told me she'd contact him & get back to me. I then asked about having a quote for replacing all the water lines in my house, as I liked the work the kid did. She told me the owner does all the estimates, and that she'd let him know. Several hours later, she calls & says that the owner thinks the price is reasonable. i asked about his time away & she said that's part of the hours charged as he was on the job. I asked why I should pay for him to go shopping on my dime when he has (or is supposed to have) a fully stocked van when he arrives. She also said that the original bill was over $850 but they reduced it (like that';s supposed to make me feel better?). And they also took off the cost of the old tank removal (which she originally told me was included in the price). I told her to cancel the quote, and to just email me the bill.
After I hung up, I got to thinking about what they were trying to say was a valid bill. I saw the parts the guy had to buy - I could have picked all of them up at Lowes easily for less than $50. The tank removal was to be $100, but she said that was removed from my bill. He was also there for 2.5 hrs (arrived @ 4:45, left maybe 15 minutes later & was gone for for 45 minutes, finished at 8p. That's $600 ($650 minus parts) for 2.5 hrs work, which is $240/hour labor? What the fuck is that? Even if I had to pay for those 45 minutes, that works out to $184/hr. I'm disgusted - but it's honestly my fault for not getting an estimate in writing up front. I'll probably just pay it, but not until the guy comes back & hauls away the old water heater & the new heater packaging like he said he would.
