2nd tonight...
I've been doing some additional reading on cold water therapy for inflammation, and what I've learned is that if one is trying to build muscle mass, cold therapy immediately after weight training will actually reduce your gains, when compared to doing an active recovery session. I've only found one or two articles/studies that even mention how long afterwards one should wait, but they seem to imply waiting at least two hours after a training session is appropriate. I've decided that, as I'm still having issues with (what I believe are) inflammation symptoms, I'm going to try to get in every day this month. I'm sure I'll miss a few days here & there, but if I aim too low, I won't do much, right?
So anyway, after having not gone in the cold tub for quite a while (a month or two?), I decided to tonight. As per usual, I did a small tub for my hands & feet first, as I've found that to improve my reaction to full immersion in the past. I was surprised at just how much it ached again, but I got through that. Water temp tonight was 51.1°F when I got in (52.2° when I got out), and I was in for 5 minutes. Once I got past the 1st minute, I was fine. Took a hot shower 5-10 minutes afterwards to warm back up, and I feel pretty good now. I'm curious to see how I sleep tonight, because that's been a big issue again for me the last couple of weeks.
Now I just need to get back to the Wim Hof breathing again...
