Shoveled snow for the first time this year, we had about 6 inches fall over the last few days. Also for the first time in several years, I wasn't totally exhausted by the time I was done - it went fairly well. I started off in longjohns, jeans, a couple t-shirts and a sweatshirt, then switched to just a t-shirt on top after maybe 30 minutes. After another 30, I felt pretty good in the cold, so I went shirtless! My neighbor came out when I was nearly done & gave me a little ribbing about it (she told me I was crazy, of course!), but it was actually kind of fun to do! It was 18°F/-8°C when I got back inside, but the house was comfortable, and I warmed up rather quickly.
I've been going back & re-watching some of the older strongman competitions (back to 2004). This is when the community split into two factions; I never had a chance to watch the 'other' as I never knew what it was called, so when I saw it mentioned, I had to check it out. Watching the old shows is always motivating, and within a couple of hours, I found myself wanting to head out to the garage for a workout again. I hadn't planned on it because I'm usually so wiped out after shoveling, but I felt pretty good, so I did. The shoveling took me around 1.5 hours, and the workout took about 1.25 hours. It was mostly upper body/shoulders (trying to take it easy on my hamstrings, which are a little sore), but it felt really good to get that work in.
I don't remember when I was last in the cold tub, but I'm guessing it's been over a week. I did finally get the "poor-man's insulation" installed, and it's actually helping quite a bit; the heater is coming on much less often. I'm hoping to get back in it tomorrow at some point. I want to go tonight, but between the shirtless shoveling and the garage workout, I think I've gotten enough cold exposure for one day. That's actually why I haven't been in the tub recently. One day, I was out on the cycle (got my 'January Ride' in!), most of the other days I was either in the garage (more cold exposure), or I hadn't slept well & decided it might not be a good idea. The last thing I want at this point is to come down with something, even if it's not Covid related. I feel like I'm on a pretty good roll here now, and I don't want to lose it. Oh... On a roll, except for the running - it's been so cold I just don't want to. I've had a couple walks, which helps a bit, but I'll need to decide when I want to get back into it. I think the cold tub is helping my 'cardio', but it won't do anything for my lungs, so I need to get back to it eventually. Between the two though, I still much prefer the strength training, so...
