I started to clean house a little today, and managed to get my tv room done. I'm likely going to work on one room a day as energy permits.
As it's a holiday today, I planned on being by myself all day. I'd thought to order chinese this evening, but when I called the number, no one answered. I've got food here, so I wasn't put out at all, just a bit surprised. What surprised me more though, was that my neighbor texted me & asked if I'd like a thanksgiving plate, as her son & daughter-in-law were over & they cooked a lot of food & wanted to share.
My 1st instinct was to decline as I always do when offered anything, and I almost did, but then I sat for a minute & thought about it. It was a very nice gesture, and I thought that maybe they would be pleased to be able to share it with me? I found the most polite way I could to say that that would be very nice, if they had enough left over.
Maybe an hour later as I was taking out some of the trash I'd collected during cleaning, she & the DIL came out with a bag of food for me - they seemed to be really excited to share it, they were all smiles, & wished me a happy thanksgiving, and it made me feel good to have brought them some happiness, and some to myself too, even if I do still feel a little self-conscious about it.
The meal was excellent (best turkey I've had in years), and there was enough for at least 1-2 more meals. I texted them after I'd eaten & told them so, and thanked them again for having thought of me & offering. It really was nice of them to do so, and I wanted to be sure they knew I appreciated it.
For a change, it made for an enjoyable holiday. I can't know what their thoughts were, but to me, it felt like someone both cared, and respected my solitary nature but wanted to include me. That hasn't happened in ages.
Hope you all enjoyed/are enjoying your holiday, whether with family/friends, or isolating with someone.
