I learned something interesting about Japanese culture today in an email I received from a website I signed up for in order to download some Japanese language PDF worksheets. In it was a link to a video entitled, "What is Kotodama? - 言霊(ことだま)Spirit of Words".
(From the web page) ""Kotodama" is a traditional belief in Japanese culture that there is a spirit resides in every word that we utter. So to avoid filling your surrounding with bad energy, people believed in the power of positive language. This was a core value in Japanese culture which is quickly forgotten in modern Japan."
I don't know if anyone who's not studying Japanese will find it of interest, but I think it's worth the 8 minute time investment. The concept is something that I wish more people would adopt.
