I woke late, after having a few drinks last night. Felt ok, but not great; had some coffee & cereal for breakfast, then went out to the garage to work on the cycle. Surprisingly, I got everything installed that I wanted (aside from the fender, obvs), but I spent all day out there & my back & hamstrings are killing me now! Up at 9:30a, out to work on the bike @ 11a, and am just sitting down to (lunch/dinner?) @ 4:15p. I'm beat, but it was well worth it!
I installed front and rear engine guards, the passenger floorboards after I had them powder-coated, toe rests for the highway bars, which should help on longer trips, and a heel shifter so I don't have to use my toe to lift the shifter up all the time. (I got all of this stuff at a discount, so ignore the prices on those sites, they're just for examples). I'm debating now whether to go ahead & try to mount the exhaust. I really want to hear the new pipes, but I think I'd rather ride it for this weekend. I definitely want them installed before the end of the month though, as I'll have a couple weeks off work.
Oh, and I got my custom exhaust back from the shop & opened them a couple days ago to check them out. Turns out, they did a shit job of packaging them & the tail tips got damaged/dented from being dropped. It's not serious damage, but it's pretty obvious, and it's on the top of the end of the pipe, which is the most visible area, so I'm going to have to rework them by filing off the damage & trying to match the flat paint with a high-heat version.
I wrote them an email & explained what happened (along with pics of everything), and told them essentially that I was frustrated with them for not following my instructions when I ordered them, to ship them back to me in the original box (which was the original box they were shipped in from the factory) because they were designed specifically for it, and I wanted to store my current pipes in it. Well, they didn't use my box, they shipped in their own, and it was woefully inadequate. I said that what's done is done & I'll work on fixing them, but as I work in automotive quality, this was a quality control issue they needed to address.
They were surprisingly contrite, and even though I didn't really make a fuss or press them about it, they offered to send me a new set of pipes, as soon as they got a set in that matched mine. I asked if they wanted to exchange them, but he said no, I could just keep the ones I have, which I think is pretty generous! Of course, he said he didn't know when they'd get another set in so it could be a while, but it's fine with me. I can make some minor repairs to these and run them for a while. I won't expect to ever get that new set, but it'll be a cool bonus if I do; then I could sell the slightly damaged set & recoup some money.
