Next topic, I got my cycle back from the shop finally. Picked it up yesterday, and it ran really well - I was surprised at how big a difference there was from before. I was excited to get out & test-ride it, and so that night I did. Rode about 50 miles, ran like a dream! I was very pleased.
Wanted to take it out for a longer ride today, because the hesitation I'd been noticing only seemed to happen after a long time spent on the road. I took the main route I usually do, but went south rather than north when I hit the end. Everything was going fine until I hit a patch of bumpy highway; not pot-hole filled, or anything like that, but more rippled, like it had buckled from frost or some such. Little bumps than ran across the entire lane. So, I hit these bumps, and after only a minute or two, the engine misfires again. Thinking I might have imagined it, I continued, but it happened a few more times, and one time was really obvious.
Thinking that maybe the repair had failed and the cycle was running on battery only, I immediately turned around & took the most direct route home I knew. Ended up on the highway, and it ran pretty well, although I was nervous about going that fast with a possible issue. I got off at a city that I knew was on the back route I take & decided to follow that way back. Within a block or two of getting off the highway, the engine actually stumbled & almost died. I tried to nurse it along & it carried on for a bit, but after another couple miles, it did exactly what it had last time, namely, completely stop running, a totally dead engine. I pulled over & parked, let it sit for a few minutes while debating whether to call a tow truck, then tried to start it again.
It started right up, and after a moment's hesitation, I decided to try to get home with it. It was a little rough at first, but within a mile or so, it seemed to be running fine again!? I did make it back home without further incident, but now it's parked in the garage, waiting to go back to the shop. I'm disappointed. Not in the guys there, because the repairs they made were valid & necessary, but moreso because those repairs didn't fix the original issue & I still can't trust this bike for any distance-riding, and that sucks.
I do have an idea of what might be happening, but I'll need to discuss it with the shop. If it's what I think it is, it should be a quick, easy fix. If not, well, looks like I'll be spending a lot more money really soon.
