Got a call from my realtor today about the house I have up for sale. Another realtor was showing it & called to tell him that the water in the toilet was frozen. As soon as he told me, I went over to check it out & see how bad it was.
1st thing I did was go to the basement & shut off the water valve, then I checked the downstairs pipes. Pipes in the basement are fine. Went upstairs then to check - kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and toilet, all frozen solid (didn't check the tub, but figured I didn't need to). Looked at the thermostat & although I could read it, it said "change batteries". I'd forgotten that the furnace guy never hooked up the thermostat power to the house & it had been running on batteries only, so most likely they batteries go so low they couldn't operate the furnace and it never came on.
I think (hope?) it'll be ok though - usually the only time you get problems with frozen pipes is when they freeze, thaw, then refreeze. At least that's my understanding. And if not, and there are some burst pipes? Well, having all the pipes replaced in the house is just another selling point, right? Even if it will be expensive. :-(
I've something else to write about, but not sure if I want to yet...
