I knew there was a reason I didn't spend that money on a guitar. Several things have come up recently that seem like a better use of that money.
1) I noticed that the rear hatch & the hood of my truck are getting rust spots. I could just let it go, but I really don't want to let this thing rust out, I really dig it! Rear hatch will run around $400-450, and I'm not sure about the hood, but I'm guessing $300 or so? Probably a good idea to fix it while it's still small.
2)I know the truck is going to need the transmission serviced soon, and I'm due for a timing belt. If that goes, say goodbye to the engine, and therefore, the truck. This is a "must do" at some point this summer. While they have it, they can also address the couple of recall items about which I've received notices.
3) I'm having a hell of a time finding 15" rims & tires for my Dodge - everything currently on the road is at least 16-18" wheels with low profile tires. Unfortunately, none of the seem to have the correct wheel backspacing/offsets to fit. This means I'll either have to "luck" into a set, or will have to cough up some serious cash, because once I convert it to 4 wheel discs, I can no longer use the rims that are currently on it (which are way too small anyway). The cheapest new rims & tires set I can find will run around $1000 or so. I did *not* want to spend that kind of bread on wheels before I've even decided on a color scheme!
4) It looks like I'm going to go over-budget on the drive-train for the Dodge as well, also by about $1000 (maybe a bit more). I have it in savings, but I wanted to use it for other things, like having the front end rebuilt (ball joints, idler arm, tie rods, etc) so I won't have any surprises when I'm on the road.
All of this would be a lot less relevant if I could find a house in my preferred price range - the only interesting/attractive ones are a good $10-25k higher than I want to spend. I looked at another one yesterday that was in my price range & while the house itself was quite charming, the garage was about ready to fall over, the yard was tiny, the basement had water issues, and it's on a high-traffic road, which would make resale a bitch, so... no go. I'm getting discouraged again.
Oh well, at least I've got... oh yeah, nobody. *rollseyes*
