It's cool tonight - would be a perfect night to sit around the firepit with someone. Unfortunately, I don't have a 'someone', nor do I even know anyone to ask over (well, that I would *want* to come over, anyway). I think that one of the things I miss most, is stuff like this; hanging out, star-gazing, enjoying each others' company. *sigh*
I've been getting some small things done on the Dodge this week; changed the spark plug boots, installed the alternator & power steering pump, upper/lower radiator hoses, transmission dipstick tube. I also wire-brushed some parts & sprayed them with a rust-converter; the battery tray, one of the battery hold-down bolts, the coil bracket, and the radiator fan shroud. I've got to go buy some black spray paint to finish them tomorrow so I can install them (hopefully by Sunday). Also, it turns out that the cross-member for my trans isn't quite right. I think the spring needs to be about half as tall as it is, because the transmission tail is sitting too high, and it's almost hitting the body in the trans tunnel. I might be able to get the engine running as it sits, but there's no way I could drive it without correcting this. I was debating installing the heater core, but I don't have the gaskets & don't want to have to redo it later, so I might skip it & just loop the inlet/outlet tubes on the block just so I can get it running. I still need to trace wires & connect the starter, install the belts, and install the carb, but I don't think any of that will be too hard. Pretty positive there's no way this car will be on the road this year though, way too much to do & I really want to be in a garage to do the rest of it.
Oh, and I found another mouse nest in the glove box. Ugh. pretty sure I'll have to replace it, and unfortunately, I might have to replace the entire dashboard, as the lower glovebox door hinge area is pretty rusted from mouse piss. >.< If I had a place to work on it, I might be able to weld in a new piece, but I really need to see if better to know.
I drove to Detroit (Ok, Wayne) last night - 125 miles one way, took almost 2 hrs. Stayed for about 1.5 hrs, then headed back home. Was a lot of driving, but I think it was worth it, although I likely won't be doing it again this year.
Oh yeah, and I think my bike will be going back int the shop soon for the brakes. I'm hoping they can turn it around pretty quickly. Just between my two Detriot-ish trips this last month, I already missed putting almost 1000 miles on the bike, not to mention the lack of riding due to not being completely comfortable with the brakes. I only need another 5000 miles to hit 100k, but it looks like it's going to have to wait until next year. :-(
So yeah, anyway, someone send over a cute single girl for me to hang out with tonight, wouldja? Thanks.
