Went to see the 1st house tonight with my realtor (Bill). As it turns out, there was another guy there to show it as well - a couple with a small child. I know the house won't last, but I don't think it will be them who actually gets it. The place was surprisingly nice for the price - good-sized rooms, the garage is large enough that I won't even have to build a pole barn at all, either (at least 22-24 ft deep)! The heat is radiant (water boiler), but in the main rooms, it's actually in the floors rather than along the base-boards, which is pretty freakin' cool! Speaking of floors, they're concrete, which makes the place feel so solid, I love it! the basement is an echo chamber, but I can finish it eventually. The roof looks new (might need some flashing work near the chimney), the yard is deep with mature trees, and Bill says that it could be landscaped to really increase the property value. The one thing I thought might be a drawback was that there's no central a/c, but we were both surprised at just how cool the house was inside, considering how hot & humid the day was.
Anyway, I'm waiting on an email from the financial gal Bill deals with. Once I give her some info, she'll pre-approve me & send the pre-app letter to my realtor, at which point, he'll make an offer on the 1st house tomorrow. He agreed on the price I wanted to offer, and also agrees that my ability to close right away will probably be a great help.
If they accept my offer, I'll be able to close on the new place within the month. I think there's a high probability that I'll get it, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet. If I do though, I'll need to buckle down & get this place finished up. I also found out that in all likelihood, I'll be able to count the upstairs "attic" area as finished space to add to my square footage, which will be a tremendous help! I told my realtor my thoughts on what I'd like to get out of the place & apparently it sounds reasonable, so this could end up working out quite well!
Oh, and I made a call today to California, and most of my parts for the Dodge will be on the way by the end of the week. Then I'll be able to start buttoning up the engine & getting it running. Good timing too, because I'll be able to do all that in the new place (if I get it, of course).
Ok, I'm pretty excited about it! I'll try to keep it down, but...
