Went to lunch @ the pub again today (as I do every weekend), stopped off to check on the status of the stylus I dropped off @ our local record store. They're going to research it & get back to me about what I need to get it working. It's from a 1968 RCA Victor console stereo/record player I picked up last weekend - excellent condition, speakers sound great, there's some static when turning dials (but nothing too bad). The only problem is the needle/tone arm needs work. I'll try to post some pics of it soon. I keep forgetting I need to finally upload/post the before/after pics of the house too - hopefully this will remind me.
Went out last night to see a couple friends play - Huey hasn't had s show in ages, and FFC were debuting their new drummer, so I really had to be there. Turns out the reason Huey hasn't played in so long is because he's been sick... Diverticulitis. Said he went to the ER 5 times before they admitted him. Says he's ok now, but said he lost 12# and it showed. He was in good spirits, and he played a great show though, so I'm glad for that. FFC? The two main guys remaining were awesome as usual, but I'm reserving judgment on the new drummer until I've heard a few shows. I wasn't too impressed, but 1) it was his 1st public appearance with the guys so he may have had some nerves going on, 2) he doesn't have anywhere near the chops the last drummer had - previous guy was an outstanding jazz drummer who would throw these intricate fills in whenever he felt it; this guy is a basic rock & roll drummer, adequate, but nothing flashy. Will have to see how he develops.
Did I mention that I got the paperwork filed with the Secretary of State for getting a title for my Dodge? It's probably going to be several weeks, but I'll have it soon enough! Speaking of the Dodge, I spent most of the afternoon trying to get the transmission out of it. I really dislike working in grass/dirt, such a PIA! Anyway, I finally got it (mostly) on the ground, but I need to figure out how to disconnect (or cut) the parking brake cable, because it's still connected to the pedal in the car, and to the trans (this old model had a drum brake on the tail of the transmission, because they hadn't actually invented PARK yet!) I tried side cutters, tin snips, a hack saw, and a power jig saw - no luck! Looks like I'm going to have to figure out how to disconnect it instead of cutting it. I finally got off my ass to do this because my engine is supposed to be done by the end of the month.
WJC will be picking it up & bringing it here one of these next weekends, and we're going to try to get it installed while he's here. I still have no idea how that's going to happen (an engine/trans on a hoist simply cannot be moved on grass) - which reminds me, I need to go buy that this week.) I also need to take the old radiator in to see if they can add another core to it, if it's in working/repairable condition. If not, I'll have to look for a new one, which I don't really want to do. Once the engine is in, I'll be able to see how much room I have for installing a power brake booster & new master cylinder. I don't have much time left this season, because these idiots at the machine shop have had my engine 6 months now - 6 months! I'm going to be having a talk with the manager about giving me some kind of compensation/discount, because they wasted a minimum of 3 months of my time that I could have been working on the car.
Oh, and I reactivated my dating profile. You know the entry I made on ITLAPD (9/19)? I posted that, word for word, as my profile the entire week! heheh... Didn't garner me any additional interest, so I changed it back that Sunday. I've now stripped it down a bit from the original, and I added a section written in German about how I'd like to work & live over there for a few years, if I had the opportunity (also added a few new pics too). I'm seriously starting to think about learning how to develop an ESL course to maybe privately teach proper grammar/spelling/pronunciation over there, because as I understand it, there's a big demand for native English speakers who can teach. It would be kind of cool to just drop out of my current line of work & move there, and I could also work on becoming fluent in German as well. It's probably just a pipe dream, but it's something to think about. For that matter, I'd really like to transfer to one of our sister companies over there, in my current job capacity, and teach on the side. All I'd need is a few years, I think.
Well, that was entirely more than I planned to write - now to decide whether to watch another episode of Leverage, or just go to bed...
