Go back one to see pictures of my recently-evicted house-friend, and new house possibility stuff...
I was so shocked by my basement find today that I forgot to mention - Viv just found out (& told me via text the day after we hung out) that she has endometrial cancer. She starts chemo treatment Monday (via pills) for I think a month, then will be having surgery. I'm pretty sad for her, because she won't be able to birth any more children, and I know kids are an important part of her life. She says she's happy she has her son & he's enough, so I'm glad about that. She's also open to adoption too. She was told the success rate for her treatment is about 77%, and while she's concerned, she's also a believer in positive thinking/imagery (as am I), so we're discussing it like it's no big deal. I'm confident she'll be fine, but as a single mom, I'm concerned about how the chemo will affect her ability to work.
She's trying to get ahead of things right away, starting with cooking a bunch of healthy food to help her through the chemo. She also shaved her head (almost - she left about 1/4"! Yesterday, it was over 12" long) She used to have short hair for ages, (when we were dating & after) & she always pulled it off well. She decided to do that, rather than wait for it to start falling out, and I think it's a cool thing, taking control of the situation like that. I'm guessing that she'll just shave it down when that starts.
Funnily enough, I'm not concerned. I just don't get a negative vibe about it at all. (Didn't when my other friend from here went through her treatment either - I could just tell things would be fine, don't know why!?) If anyone has any advice I could pass along, it'd be appreciated. Tips on eating right/health care, thoughts dealing with the mental issues that might crop up, etc.
Thanks.
