I realized the other day, that living without a kitchen has been killing my waistline - I'm up 30# from where I was when I was working out consistently. Granted, that was quite a while ago, but at one point, I was down to 190#. I'm back up to roughly 220# again, so yesterday, I sat down with my computer & made a list of fitness goals for myself, and some conditions... I don't have the list with me now, but the first (and biggest) one for me is that I decided I can't go out to bars for anything (shows, dinner, karaoke, etc.) until I've lost at least 10# (with one exception - if I end up actually being able to play a gig somewhere). I still have to dine out, but my thought is that by eliminating bars (and hence, bar food/alcohol) I should greatly reduce the bad calories I was consuming. I also created an Excel spreadsheet for a workout plan, and will be starting that in the next day or two. In the past, I've tried to push myself too hard, too soon, and have burned out, so this plan is very simple/straight-forward, and once I can get past the first two weeks of soreness, it should be pretty easy to maintain. I'm not going to try running yet, because I think I'll get more benefits from weight lifting at first - it's controlled, it's warmer (indoors, rather than outdoors) and more muscle = higher metabolism.
Anyway, as part of this thought process, I finally realized just how important it is for me to get this place in some semblance of shape. I spent the last couple days working on the house. Saturday, I worked on cleaning the mold remnants from the rafters on the other end of the basement (that makes two "quarters" of the basement cleaned now!), then I moved the weight rack to that end to make room for my music equipment. I got my drum set out of the attic area & set it up in the far corner, then brought down my electric guitar/practice amp, and my electric keyboard (and yes, I did try playing the drums a bit - I really suck, but at least now, I can practice a bit if I like!).
Sunday, I worked on the upstairs - caulked the bathroom trim, taped off the LR walls so I could paint the baseboard trim, and cut some of the replacement pieces to fit. I've been avoiding painting because I thought it was such a P.I.A. but it wasn't all that bad. Got the beige wall paint out and covered the LR areas I'd missed before, then painted the areas I'd had to repair in the bathroom, along with painting the plumbing access panel I'd forgotten about originally. Got the white paint out & did touch-up work on the crown moulding in the LR, two of the doorway frames in the hall, and then finished up the bathroom details. The bathroom is done enough that I could live with it, although if I wanted to be "perfect", I'd probably scrape the ceiling & redo that, then touch up the edges (haven't decided whether it's worth my time yet). Next, I got the chocolate paint out & put a couple coats on the baseboard & a few of the shoe moulding pieces. I even managed to get through the entire project (so far) without getting a single drop of paint on the hardwood floors!
Tonight, I'm supposed to call a buddy about joining him at his practice (not sure if it will be tonight or tomorrow). He told me to bring both my acoustic guitar, and my electric bass, and that if things go well (and I get a few more practice sessions in with them) he'd be cool with me joining them onstage for a few songs. The guy does tons of covers, and we have very similar musical tastes, so there shouldn't be too many songs I don't know, which will help. Depending on when that happens, I may try to get my workout in first, or get some more of the trim/shoe moulding painted/installed. Seriously, all I have left in the living room is one piece of baseboard, and three edges for shoe moulding, and it will be done! The next project is to finish painting the trim in the hallway (and the cabinet doors, which I'd forgotten until now! >.<), then I'm going to clear the bedroom out (looks like I'll be sleeping in the LR again for a bit!) & paint that, so I can buy a new bed & finally get a good night's sleep! Truthfully, I'll probably work on both the bedroom and kitchen simultaneously, but with a focus on getting the bedroom done first.
It feels really good to have a game plan finally, no more of this back & forth, wishy-washy "charlie brown" syndrome. Can't wait to get the LR finished!
p.s. Wrote to CC a couple days before Thanksgiving to wish her a happy holiday, but haven't heard back yet. I'm such a sucker when it comes to her... still, I miss her quite a bit. *sigh*
