Heh... Got a phone call this morning from the prosecutor, telling me that the court date for today was rescheduled for the middle of April, so I guessed I dodged a bullet, so to speak (at least for now).
As long as I'm writing, I may as well update things - I closed on my new place last week, and I've gotten all the utilities in my name now. Got the water turned on, and fortunately, there are no system leaks, other than a leaky toilet flap, which is easy to replace. I'm going to try to light the gas water heater this week & make sure it's working alright. My brother-in-law isn't able to come out for another couple weeks, so I'm really not sure wherre I should start, because he's the guy with the skills/knowledge. I mean, I know I can handle things, but it would be a lot easier to have someone around with a game plan, rather than me just trying to muddle my way through revovations. I'm going to start making a list today of all the things I want to repair/replace, then start pricing it out to see how much I'm going to need, which ones I can do first, and which ones will have to wait. I think the first thing will be removing the carpeting on the main floor and in the basement. The basement carpet is essentially just area rugs, but they're both pretty mildewed/moldy. I bought a new dehumidifier & put it down there a few days ago & it already seems to be helping. I guess the first thing I should do is start cleaning all of the mold in the basement & letting it air out.
I'd really like to start painting, but there's a freaking drop-ceiling in the living room, and the ceiling above that isn't finished. Bro-in-law said he'd help me with that, and it really should be done first, so it doesn't fuck up anything else. then I can work on painting the walls, and finally, I can refinish the hardwood floors. Once I do that, I can start buying furniture & moving in, although I'm not sure I can wait that long. I might have to start moving some shit over before then, just the boxes 7 storage-type stuff. That can all go in the "attic" area for now. Then, I suppose, I should get the garage secure (new doors all around) so I can start bringing vehicles over.
Gah! There's so much to do! I haven't even fnished packing/organizing the old place to know what I'm taking & what's going to Good Will, or just the trash.
Oh yeah, and the thing I didn't want to talk about yet? Still don't, because I've no idea what the deal is...
