So I've been told (again) that I need to finally do an update, but I've no idea where to start. Hmm...
1) Sometimes, I dislike being reminded that there are beautiful women elsewhere in the world (thanks a lot, Fairybones! lol ) I've given up on dating in this town, because there are so few women that are appealing to me on more than one level. I meet some very cool people, and occasionally some moderately attractive ones, but never do I find anything close to a "total package". It's so frustrating! I feel like my life is on hold for now, until I find a new job, and figure where it is I'll be living. I'm to the point where I'm considering casually dating one of my exes again - what the hell!? I know better, but yet, I also know we were quite compatible to a point, including physically. Especially physically! *grin* Anyway, it likely won't matter, because we don't talk that often, and are in two different towns currently, roughly an hour apart.
2) I've sent emails to maybe 4-5 online ads so far, over half of which are on the other side of the state, which is where I want to be. I sent them on Saturday, so I'm hoping that by tomorrow or the next day, I'll here back from them. I also had a pseudo-phone interview yesterday, with a new start-up company. I've actually worked with one of the co-owners in the past - my old company hired his old company to do some contract work for them. This new company also bought the old machine and programs I worked on for years, so they would really benefit from having the original author of the programs to be an employee. I know the stuff inside & out, too. The only problem is, the company is located over 80 miles from me, *one way*! That's a 1 hr 45 min. drive, *each way*! I did some calculating, and if I were to work 5 days a week, I would have to spend almost $500 a month in gas, just to get to work - that wouldn't include gas to get around town here on the weekends, to have some sort of life. To put that in perspective, my last job was only 12.5 miles one way. Using the same calculations, I only spent $75 a month on gas to get to work. This new job would have to pay really well for me to consider it. Still, I'm supposed to talk with the two owners on Monday to discuss things further. There was talk of a possible travel allowance, which would help financially, but still, we're talking a 3.5 hr drive *every day*. They also mentioned possibly letting me work a few 12hr days, and only travelling up there 3 days a week. that would help as well, but 3.5 hrs driving + 12 hr work days = almost 16hrs a day devoted solely to work. I wouldn't be able to sleep more than 6 hrs a day on work days. I don't really think I want to deal with that either. Gods, I dislike job hunting!!
3) I've been "cutting" for almost two months now. Now, before you get the wrong idea, I don't mean with a knife/razor, I mean diet/exercise! I'm down almost 10# as of this morning, and I'm still getting stronger. I've been getting a lot of compliments from people who haven't seen me in a while, even several comments of "you're looking skinny!" I don't ever remember being called skinny before, so it's been a real ego boost. I'm not really a big guy at all, I just seem to carry my weight well. I've always been friends with bigger guys, and so I tend to think of myself as a big guy as well, and I act that way, with the way I walk, and the way I hold/carry myself. People just tend to think of me as a big guy for some reason. For those of you who know me, why do you think that is?
4) I've been learning some new songs on guitar - I don't play lead in any way, just strumming... think "campfire" sound, but not songs! The last few songs I've picked up are "All Things in Time" by Toad the Wet Sprocket, and "Getaway Car" and "Last Remaining Light", both by Audioslave. They're still not quite as smooth as I'd like, but getting better. As far as bass goes, I don't remember if I mentioned trying out for another band, but I only got two practices with them before they kind of stopped contacting me. I talked to the singer a few weeks later & it was decided that I wasn't picking things up fast enough, and that they'd be better off just doing things on their own for now, so I'm back down to playing for the one band. It looks like I'm going to have to mod my favorite bass, too, because the pickups are kind of cheap, and they're picking up a ton of interference/buzz when we have the lighting rig on during practice. I have another passive bass, but it's in the process of being converted to a 5-string, so i can't actually play it yet. Once I get that redone, *that* will be my favorite bass, because it will be a 5-string bass, built on a 4-string body/neck, and I've never seen one anywhere. It'll be unique, and a great conversation piece. Not only that, but as it's flat-black right now, I'm going to be able to paint it any way I want. I've got tons of ideas to play with, but first, I need to get the conversion done.
Well, I guess that's it for now - I doubt anyone will take the time to read through the entire thing, but if you have - sorry it was so long, but be thankful! It might have been even longer, because I'm sure I've forgotten some things.
Tschss!!
