Still having trouble sleeping - went to bed around 11:30 last night, which is early for me. Had to get back up around 12:15 to take a sleeping pill. Lay there for another half hour or so, long enough to feel the pill kick in. Continued to lay there, feeling spaced out from it, but not going to sleep. Last looked at the clock around 2a, I think. I'm going to have to try to stick with going to bed early (11p or earlier) until I get into the habit.
This morning, had the weirdest dream, of which I only remember a few parts -
1) from "Blazing Saddles", the top-hat musical segment with Dom DeLuise
Throw out your hands
Stick out your tush
Hands on your hips
Give 'em a push
You'll be surprised
You're doing the French Mistake!
Voila!
(I seriously have no freaking idea where that came from - I haven't seen that movie in years!?)
which set up...
2) I'm at a fancy-dress party of roughly that same time period, in a large ballroom, when I see Indiana Jones & a woman dancing amongst the large party crowd. I turn to look towards the sweeping staircase & see a beautiful/evil looking woman guiding a macabre male body down the stairs. His face has been stitched up, and it's obvious he's dead/undead, yet he's walking on his own. As they approach Dr. Jones, I see a little trickle of clear liquid come from the corner of the male body's mouth. As soon as this happens, the rest of the face starts to relax/sag, maggots start crawling out of the stiched-up eye sockets/mouth & he starts to speak. I don't remember what was said, but that's when I realize that...
3) the male body is actually The Lord of Death, (I associate him with the name "Chemosh" which is the god's name in a fantasy book series I read) and has come for Dr. Jones. At this point, I realize I'm apparently his sidekick, because he yells at me to get all the people out of the ballroom! People start panicking and scrambling for the various exits, as I run about making sure everyone's getting out. I realize there's a kid missing at some point, and search the room, where I find a small girl hiding/sleeping, all curled up, in a closet. I pick her up & run for the door to get her to safety. In the meantime, Indiana is running from Chemosh, of course with the famous background music playing! As soon as I'm out the door with the kid, all of the doors to the ballroom start to swing shut on their own (Chemosh's doing) and I panic, thinking I'll never get back in to help Indy, so I stick my foot in the nearest door, still holding onto the child. The wind sucking the door closed is so strong that the door starts bowing and curving in; even the paint on the door starts to bubble up & peel off, almost like it's decaying. It's all I can do to keep the door open, and I'm afraid if I set the girl down, she'll get sucked into the room. As I stand there trying to figure out what to do, the force trying to close the doors suddenly stops, the door slowly swings open, and it seems to be all over.
Yeah, that's it - the alarm went off after that, and I never got back into the dream. Isn't that just odd? Especially the silly "Blazing Saddles" reference in the beginning!?
Anyway, I went running again yesterday afternoon, & wrote out my new workout routine for the next month. I changed up some of the exercises to include some of my favorites and I hope that it will get/keep me motivated again. Taking the last week off really helped me in one way, but hurt me in a couple others. It helped insomuch as it allowed me to relax a bit, to let my feelings run their course, and to clear the negative energy from my system. On the other hand, it hurt me by 1) setting me behind in my workouts/making me weaker, and therefore making it more difficult to get back into it, 2) all the drinking made me sleep very little, gave me minor hangovers, and generally got my back out of whack, so much so that I had a lot of trouble doing normal everyday things without pain, and 3) I spent well over a hundred dollars, just going out during the last week. Even if I hadn't recently had a pay decrease, I couldn't afford to do that on a regular basis!
I got my annual review today, and, had it been a normal year, I would be getting a great raise. As it is, I did get a great review, with very positive peer feedback. Of course, due to the economy, there will be no raises this year, but I'm hoping it will reflect well when next year's review comes around. We will be rewriting my job description as well, since I've assumed a lot more responsibility & job duties this past year, and my intent is to talk them into reclassifying the job at that time, to move it into a higher pay grade. (When the time comes, of course...)
Ok, back to work - I've got a lot to do, and very little time in which to do it.
