I'm really having a struggle with going out again - I think it's the closest thing I have to an addiction. it doesn't matter if I have things to do the next day, I have this crazy idea that if I don't go out, I'll miss a chance at meeting a great girl. It's stupid, really, because the only time it's ever happened, it wasn't even because i went out, it was because I was introduced to someone while out.
Well, I'm putting my foot down - if I want to go out, it will be on a Friday/Saturaday only, as I'll be able to sleep in the next day, and it won't affect my workouts. I've got a little over 6 weeks to get up to speed with my running, for a 5k that's coming up the third week of April. I ran again last night, 2 miles, and beat my previous best time. The lack of sleep from last night is killing me now though, as my legs are pretty sore. Having a few drinks while out didn't help either, I'm sure...
I wonder what a respectable time is for completing a 5k run? I'll have to go check now - I'm sure I won't be very fast, but I don't want to totally embarrass myself either! Maybe I'll see if my friend Bo wants to run it with me!? She said she would last year when I brought it up, even though it fell through. I think I'll email her & see if she's up for it. It would be cool to have someone there to talk with, too. (Might also help me to talk with some other cute women there! Well, if there are any, that is!?)
I just looked up some basic time info, and it looks like I'll be fine (as far as the embarrassment factor goes) for a beginner - I'll be aiming for a 5k (3.1 mile) time of around 34-36 minutes. I want to do better than that, however, and last night shows that I should be able to - even after not having run for a week or two, I ran 2 miles in 22:26. Not great by any stretch, but not horrible either. I'd like to get below 33 minutes, which would be sub-11min. miles. I'm going to keep lifting, too, until maybe the week before; then I'll stop, to give myself a chance to "rest up" for "race day". (HA! it sounds so funny for me to say "race day", like I'm some elite runner or something!)
By the way, do you have any journal recommendations for me? I'd like to start reading some new people, but have no idea where to start!?
