My company has annual financial goals that, if we meet them, we get a bonus, based on a sliding scale of one-month's salary, with 60% being minimum, and 150% being the max (unless we don't hit them, in which case we get nothing).
With the way the world has been in the last year, and considering we're a world-wide company, we failed to hit any of our targets. This should have meant that we'd see no bonus, but 'the board' somehow decided/came up with the idea to give us a 70% bonus, which I'll gladly accept!
I'm thinking it's partly an employee retention play, as they also, unannounced, gave everyone (in our plant's front office, at least) a 7% raise! It was announced at our annual all-employee meeting that they would be doing a study (and adjustment) on pay for the production crew in order to remain competitive in the market, but nothing was said about the salaried positions.
The kicker for me is, this wasn't too far off from the raise I'd been trying to talk my company into when they gave me the new job title. It's enough, anyway, that my lack of satisfaction with my job has lessened, and I'm not so concerned with finding a new one now.
I'm still open to opportunities should they arise, but I'm not overly concerned about actively searching anymore. That feels good.
