I'm pretty excited tonight, but also pretty anxious! No, it's not a date (like that's really ever going to happen again...).
I ordered a 2-person cedar barrel sauna tonight! I'm excited, because I've been wanting one for years, but I'm anxious because it's a lot of money to spend in a down economy. Honestly though, it was a deal that was really hard to turn down. They put the model I wanted on sale at over 53% off list price (not uncommon, they do approximately the same discount fairly often), but they also offered free shipping, which would have added another 17% to the price! (Free shipping is something I've never seen, in all the years I've been monitoring this website.)
I have some 'emergency' cash from a previous car sale, still sitting in an envelope here, which I'll be depositing in the bank in the next week or two. I've also put the swivel seat unit I bought for the Dodge all those years ago, up for sale on the discussion board. Between those two (if I get close to my asking price for the seat), that will cover half of the expense, and if we get a bonus again this year (which is likely, but won't be until next May), that will cover the balance easily. (Oh, I can also sell my electric bass, amp, and speaker cabinet - I forgot about those!) So really, all I'm doing is pulling my bonus forward by a few months (if I even end up needing it?) & then paying myself back. Still, it makes me nervous, spending down my 'emergency fund' for something like this, even though I'll still have more than enough.
On the plus side, my last day of work this year is the 16th of this month, so I'll have plenty of time to assemble it! I'm placing it indoors, on my 3-season porch - still haven't worked out where, but it'll be near the cold tub so that I can eventually go back & forth between them. I also have that 3-piece wrought-iron patio set that I had outside for a while, which I think I'll leave set up near the sauna so that when I want to take a break, I'll have somewhere to sit & relax before going back in the house.
I'm excited to finally be getting it after all these years, but now, I have to get myself in gear & clean up the porch. It's collected a bunch of cardboard for recycling, and some random detritus that may be saleable or may be scrap. Oh, and the delivery is only as far as the curb in front of the house, so I'll have to haul a total of +500 lbs, a few pieces at a time, to the back of the house by myself. It'll be a good workout! Then I'll need to contact an electrician I know at work to see if he'll wire it up for 240V. I have two outlets already that may be able to be converted, but depending on local code, it might have to be hard-wired? One thing at a time, I suppose.
After that, all I'll need to do is find someone with whom to share it... *sigh*
