1) Having gone back through my journal, I see that shoveling snow has given me upper back/neck/shoulder troubles the last several times I've done it. Note to Self: Shoveling is its own workout - only shovel when you have done nothing else, and can take a day or two off in order to rest & recover.
2) Having gone back through my workout spreadsheet, I can see why I had the other back issues. I told myself I was going to take it easy on the weights, but found that I've been increasing the amounts too much, and trying to test my strength too often. For the type of workouts and diet I'm following right now, I shouldn't be raising my working weights by more than 5 lbs per month for upper body, and 10 lbs per month for lower. This will prevent me from overdoing it (which I have a major tendency to do).
3) I had another very poor night of sleep last night. Only took one sleep aid tablet, but fell asleep fairly quickly (for me). Problem was, I awoke in the middle of the night & couldn't get back to sleep. I didn't check my phone so I don't know what time it was, but I lay there for what seemed like 2-3 hrs, tossing & turning, wondering when my alarm would go off, and being continually surprised when it didn't. Pretty much wide awake when I finally got up. It was so frustrating, I broke down & ordered that sleep-tracking ring this morning at work. I really need to know if my sleep is as bad as I think, or if I'm getting enough & just feel like it's poor. This sizing kit will be here this week, and I think it takes another week or two after that. After about 2-3 weeks of wearing it, I should have a good idea of my sleep habits.
4) While I'm still working at it, my Japanese practice has dwindled a bit. I'm still practicing every day, but most days, only the minimum to which I've committed on Duolingo. I haven't done the online Japanese course I paid for, in two weeks or more, and I've skipped the free Python programming one I signed up for too. For some reason, I don't have the mental bandwidth right now. I hope that changes soon.
5) I added a new category to my 'Monthly Budget Tracking' spreadsheet when I updated for January. I figured, why not? As it's a new year, and I'd successfully reduced some of my monthly costs. I added a 'Hobbies' category, in which I've placed the new guitar, the language course, and my new exercise equipment. The ring will go into my 'Medical-Dental' category, as it's main purpose is for improving my health. I also will place any fees associated with the climbing gym in 'Hobbies', if I actually end up going. I don't think I've ever budgeted for things like this, and I think it's an important step.
