Since I was alone (and feeling very much so) I had a few drinks last night. I ran across a facespace page for the old band I met in Germany years back, that I'm still friends with, and I listened to a bunch of their online videos.
As I sat there, I imagined living in Germany, near everyone, and wondered if I'd have friends to hang out with if I did. I'm really difficult to "get" here in the US, but I think my personality belongs more in Europe than here (I blend in fairly well in both England and Germany). I imagined hanging out with the band & maybe playing my own music, too. Who knows, I might even end up fronting a band in Germany, because they seem to like English-speaking singers. I can also sing in German, but I'd have to learn the specific words until I was fluent. It's a nice fantasy, but it's unlikely to happen unless my company is willing to transfer me for a time.
My German friend has asked me to correct his German-to-English translation of his company's website. He sent me the google translation and would like for me to turn it into proper English, he said! Of course I agreed, I think it'll be fun! I'd like to be able to do this as a 2nd job in Germany if I were to live there, maybe even a cash-only job. I wonder how much demand there might be for such a service? Could I make a living doing it? Especially if I were to become fluent in a year or so?
I couldn't move for a few years anyway, since I want to get my Dodge completed before I make any major life changes That's the only really large expenditure I have left, once the house is paid off. I want to complete it while I'm still working, then I can consider a move, or even retiring early.
