I wrote back to the band guy about the singing/guitar gig a couple times, once on Saturday, once on Sunday, but haven't heard back from him. I'm trying to figure out now what I might have said/done to turn him off to talking with me. I didn't write back to him when he wrote on Friday - I didn't write back to him until maybe 2-3pm Sat. He'd said he was available Saturday afternoon (which I obviously missed) He'd also mentioned that they would be practicing Sunday around 3:30p, and maybe I could stop out then. I told him I had a "previous commitment" and couldn't make it in that time frame Sunday, but that I would be at the "town pub" Sat. night for karaoke & if he wanted, he could stop up to hear me sing. I also described myself a little & gave the nickname I go by, so he could identify me. I haven't heard back from him since...
I've come up with a few things that might have been the problem, a couple of which I think might be likely.
1) I didn't write back right away - he could take that as a lack of "commitment" or seriousness about it.
2) the "previous commitment" comment - he may have thought I meant "ongoing" and would be unavailable on their practice days.
3) I described myself as a "kind of biker-looking guy" - maybe I wouldn't fit their image?
4) I gave him my nickname from the bar - maybe he's heard me sing before & didn't think I'd fit their sound.
5) I mentioned that I sing karaoke - maybe he thought that meant I must suck, or maybe they don't want a "karaoke" singer.
I'm going to give it a couple more days, and if I haven't heard back from him, I'm going to write a friendly email asking what it was that turned him off to talking with me further. (For example, if it's the "karaoke" stigma, I want to be sure I don't bring that up in the future, if I try to contact someone else about singing) Whatever the reason, it would be helpful to know. Obviously, I'm not upset by it - I mean, i didn't really expect anything to come from it anyway; it was more of a lark than anything - but the idea kind of appeals to me now, after having gotten over the initial mental qualms I had about "trying out" for a singing gig. I saw a few other posts for singers, so maybe I'll write to them soon.
I heard back from Bo, and she said that she'd definitely be up for it, even though she hasn't run in a long time, and she'd likely have to walk some of it. (I'm going to write back to her & see if she wants to run with me a few times, to get back into the swing of things.) She also said that she'd ask around & see if anyone else wanted to do it with us. I think it'd be cool to have a group of people. Obviously, we wouldn't all run the same pace, but it'd be fun to be with a group before & after, to talk about it & such. I'm looking forward to it now!
I tried to work out last night, but because I'd had so little sleep the previous night, I could tell by my second set that I didn't have it in me to finish, so I just stopped. I went to bed fairly early (for me) and got almost a full 8 hours of sleep, although I'm still a bit groggy from the sleeping pill I took. I'm going to do yesterday's workout tonight, and if it goes well, I may go out for a quick run afterwards. I'm also going to try to not skip tomorrow's workout, so I can get back on my original schedule.
And thanks for the notes, gang! I'm looking forward to meeting some new people on here! Keep your eyes peeled for fun new reads for me, too!!
