I feel ok, consindering the fact that my sinuses are so congested and swollen, they're making the roof of my mouth sore. I'm taking decongestants, and keeping up with mild/moderate exercise to try to keep myself going. I'll give this another week, and if it's not gone by then, I'm going to have to go to the doctor. I dislike doctors. On second thought, fuck doctors - I'll do it myself, damnit!
Went to practice again last night, even though I wasn't feeling well. Did pretty well with the first 3-4 songs, but kind of started falling apart after that. Fortunately, J1 was taking notes on where I messed up, so this weekend, we can work on those specific areas. They just told me that the other gal has "set them up" in a battle of the bands that's going on about 1-2 hours from here. J1 was a bit uncomfortable about the whole "who's going to play" for the show, but I told him it's no sweat, her info, her show. He asked if I was planning on being there for it & when he said it was on a Saturday, I told him yes. If for some reason, she backs out, or chickens out, I want to be ready to go on, so the goal between now & then is for me to have 5-6 songs "perfected" (meaning, where I'm confident enough that I don't think I'll screw them up). The show is in almost exactly 1 month, April 4th. It's kind of nice having a deadline, because it's upped my motivation again to practice. (I've been feeling a little lax in that department for a week or two) Anyway, we're going to pick my best songs, and work on those for the next few weeks. Wow, I might be playing my first show in a month! That just seems crazy to me...
"Hey, Inego... I hope we win!"
As a side note - I was perusing craigslist, and found a couple of want-ads for vocalists, and I've been considering trying out for a couple of them. One is a group of guys older than I am, who are looking to do more classic rock-type stuff. Some of the bands they listed for examples of stuff they do are some of my favorites, and I've actually karaoked some songs by a few of the artists. I can picture myself "trying out" for them, singing a few songs a capella, and it doesn't make me too nervous, so I'm kind of considering that a good sign. I think I'll write to them in the next week or so, if this congestion goes away enough for me to sing fairly well. Since this band I'm with is keeping the two of us (me & the girl) to play with them, I might have time to work both bands at the same time.
(added note: I just emailed one of the groups - I hope I hear back from them soon! I wonder if I'll be able to handle both bands?)
